Summer 8A-Side Soccer Tournament Rules
1. Team & Player Requirements
- Each team may register up to 12 players (8 on the field + 4 substitutes).
- All players must sign a waiver.
2. Match Format
- 8 vs 8 (7 field players + 1 goalkeeper).
- Match duration: 60 minutes total
- 30 minutes each half
- 5-minute halftime
- Rolling/continuous substitutions are allowed only during stoppages with referee approval.
3. Field & Equipment
- Games are played on a turf field.
- Standard Size 5 soccer ball.
- Shin guards are recommended.
- Teams must wear matching color shirts/jerseys.
4. Kick-Off & Restarts
- Kick-off decided by coin toss.
- Kick-ins replace throw-ins (ball placed on the line and kicked in through a short ground pass).
- Goal kicks may be taken from anywhere inside the goalkeeper’s box.
- Corners are taken normally.
- No offside rule.
5. Fouls & Discipline
- Standard FIFA fouls apply.
- Slide tackles are not allowed.
- Slide blocks by goalkeepers inside the box are allowed.
- Dangerous play, reckless contact, or disrespect may result in:
- Yellow card
- Red card (player removed; team plays short for the remainder of the match; player will miss the first 20 minutes of the next match)
- Two yellow cards = Red card.
6. Goalkeeper Rules
- Goalkeepers may use their hands only inside the penalty area.
- No pass-back rule for goalkeeper handling.
7. Scoring & Standings (League Format)
- Win = 3 points
- Draw = 1 point
- Loss = 0 points
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Head-to-head result
- Coin toss
8. Knockout Stage
- 15 minutes extra time
- 3 penalty kicks per team
- Sudden-death penalties if still tied
- Only players on the field at full time may take penalties
9. Weather & Match Suspension Policy
- The match will be recorded as a draw.
- Both teams will receive 1 point each.
- Match time may be reduced to 20 minutes total if schedule and field availability allow.
- If the match still cannot be completed, the higher-ranked seed from league standings will advance to the next round.
- Match duration may be reduced if possible.
- If the final still cannot be completed, the higher-seeded team entering the final will be declared tournament champion.
10. Conduct
- Respect referees, opponents, and facility rules.
- Zero-tolerance policy for:
- Fighting
- Abusive language
- Intentional dangerous play
- Violations may lead to team disqualification.
11. Equipment & Footwear Rule
- Referees may disqualify any player not wearing turf shoes.
